Product Development & Engineering
Here are a few projects intended to show breadth of experience and career progression. I would be happy to discuss learnings from these samples and others.
Portable, Rechargeable Atomizer (2018)
MY ROLE(S):
Client Relationship Manager,
Technical Project Manager,
Lead CX Researcher
WHY I CHOSE THIS SAMPLE:
Technology integration,
User experience,
Class II medical device
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Portable, rechargeable skincare device designed to atomize consumable fluid cartridges. Security chip contacts embedded in the device identified the fluid type (eg. sunscreen, makeup setting spray, hydration fluid) and automatically adjusted atomization settings based on fluid parameters. The security chip also prevented counterfeit consumable cartridges. This project required seemless integration of user experience research and technical engineering exploration.

Undersink Water Filtration Solution (2016)
MY ROLE(S):
Client Relationship Manager,
Technical Project Manager,
Lead CX Researcher
WHY I CHOSE THIS SAMPLE:
Technology integration,
User experience,
App development (UI/UX)
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This solution was positioned as an innovative way to get filtered water right from the faucet. The system allows the user to choose whether they want filtered or unfiltered water, to maximize the life of the water filter. Our team explored and tested various activation technologies, and implemented capacitive proximity sensors and wireless IoT communication. We also developed an app for water consumption and filter life tracking, and to allow purchase of filters.

Jewelry Business Startup (2011)
MY ROLE(S):
Business Owner,
Product Designer,
Engineer
WHY I CHOSE THIS SAMPLE:
Entrepreneurship,
Creativity
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: I originated this innovative pendant and independently developed the design and mechanism. I identified a vendor willing to work with me as a startup, and together we produced samples for merchandising. I applied for a utility patent on the novel aspect of indexing an even or odd number of gemstones in the pendant. The intent was to market it to mothers with growing families.

Grandmother's Pendant

Incline Sleeper Bassinet Insert (2011)
MY ROLE(S):
Product Engineer,
Project Manager
WHY I CHOSE THIS SAMPLE:
Award-winning innovation,
Soft goods engineering
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Generated new-to-the-world idea for an incline seat insert that clips onto a standard bassinet. The intent was to improve comfort and safety for newborns with GERD. Worked with a fashion designer through multiple prototype iterations to engineer a design which addressed safety and manufacturing tolerance considerations. Managed product cost, timeline, budget, and overseas vendor throughout development. Awarded 2011 JPMA Product of the Year Honorable Mention.

1/2
Baby Walker Redesign (2010)
MY ROLE(S):
Product Engineer,
Project Manager
WHY I CHOSE THIS SAMPLE:
Overseas vendor management,
User concept testing
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Reimagined the product structure and conversion methodology to deliver same features to the customer at a $12.00/unit F.O.B. saving. This "crash" 10-month project (from kick-off to ship) saved our critical product placement at well-known retailer. Managed team and overseas vendor throughout development, validation, and debug.

Contrast Fluid Delivery System (2005)
MY ROLE(S):
Product Enginneer,
Ethnographic Researcher
WHY I CHOSE THIS SAMPLE:
Class II medical device,
Surgical observation,
Engineering skill
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Participated in ethnographic research focusing on user experience of medical staff during angiograms. Identified opportunities to increase overall procedure efficiency & increase precision of contrast fluid use, thereby improving experience of all stakeholders. Presented research findings to client’s board of nationally renowned cardiologists. Re-engineered fluid path for more control and less interruptions during procedures.

1/1
Pharmacuetical Delivery Device (2001)
MY ROLE(S):
Product Engineer,
Ethnographic Researcher
WHY I CHOSE THIS SAMPLE:
Class II medical device,
User concept testing,
Engineering ability
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: ldeated mechanisms for dispensing accurate fluid volumes. Created interaction models representing range of mechanism options and participated in user testing. Modeled the device components in ProE/Creo and performed engineering calculations to prove dose accuracy and to determine user input loads. Facilitated SLA and NC prototype builds.

Jaguar S-Type Floor Console (1997)
MY ROLE(S):
Product Engineer
WHY I CHOSE THIS SAMPLE:
Automotive sector,
Overseas assignment,
Engineering ability
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: While working for a tier-1 interior automotive supplier, designed damped push-push mechanisms for the cupholder and ashtray. Designed cupholder, ashtray, and armrest attachment scheme to trimplate. During my four-month overseas assignment, I managed vendors in Britain and Spain and established/validated quality procedures for my company's first manufacturing location in England.
